Amos Burn (1848–1925) was an English chess player who became one of the world's leading players at the end of the 19th century. His variation 1 e4 e6 2 d4 d5 3 Nc3 Nf6 4 Bg5 dxe4 was typical of his strong defensive style and was later adopted by Petrosian. He was an amateur player who travelled extensively in his profession as a cotton broker.
